Located in Plainville, Massachusetts, Plainridge Park is a casino that offers both electronic gaming machines (EGMs) and live horse racing. Opened on June 24, 2015, it was the first-ever resort-style casino in the state of Massachusetts.

History

Plainridge casinoplainridge.ca Park’s story began with the passing of Question 3 in 2011, which allowed casinos to operate within specific regions of the state, including Plainville. Following a bidding process, Penn National Gaming (PNG) emerged as the winner and partnered with the Mohegan Sun Casino to develop the property.

Infrastructure Development

The construction of Plainridge Park involved significant investments from PNG and its partners. The complex features over 1,200 EGMs, as well as simulcast horse racing facilities that allow patrons to bet on live events across North America. Upon opening day, the casino employed around 700 staff members.

Regulatory Background

Massachusetts’s gaming regulations are governed by the Massachusetts Gaming Commission (MGC). Plainridge Park operates under a Category 3 license, which enables it to offer both slots and table games, as well as horse racing. The MGC has implemented various rules and guidelines for casinos in the state, aiming to prevent problem gambling issues while generating revenue.

Gaming Options

Plainridge Park offers an extensive selection of electronic gaming machines (EGMs), providing patrons with a diverse range of themes and betting options. Some notable titles include Wheel of Fortune, Buffalo Grand, and the exclusive “Wicked Winnings” series developed by IGT. Furthermore, the casino hosts live horse racing events from various tracks across North America.

Customer Experience

Patrons can enjoy complimentary valet parking services at Plainridge Park. Upon entering the facility, visitors will be greeted with a vast gaming floor featuring approximately 1,200 EGMs and multiple dining options. The property also offers a bar area where patrons can relax while watching live horse racing events.

Racing Schedule

Plainridge Park features simulcasting of live horse racing events from several major tracks in North America. Some of the prominent racetracks that their customers are able to bet on include:

  • Churchill Downs (Kentucky Derby, Pegasus World Cup)
  • Gulfstream Park (Florida-based track known for the Eclipse Awards ceremony and annual awards presentation)
  • Keeneland Sales (leading thoroughbred auction facility based in Lexington, KY.) The casino also features races from smaller tracks like Colonial Farm’s horse racing complex.

Table Games

Although Plainridge does not offer traditional table games as part of its initial Category 3 license, the state legislature has allowed for future expansion and incorporation of such gaming options upon review by MGC. However due to concerns on gambling addiction related issues a total ban was enforced.
